I had the best weekend thanks to free tickets for Latitude Festival from Mar. I saw Patrick Wolf, The National, Andrew Bird, CSS, I'm From Barcelona and The Hold Steady... I can't remember the others though. I'm still sunburnt...

I have been living in London for almost a year now, I remember arriving at the end of last June and I really had no clue about my future and where I was going to end up. I haven't written in here in so long... since January actually. Things have been going fairly well, I am now almost permanantly employed at Metrodome Distribution as a Theatrical Sales and Materials Assistant. I am assigned scripts and I make script reports for the acquisitions person, I make books of synopsises and films for them when they attend film festivals and I file things. I get invited for film drinks and canapes, it's all very pretentious... I do enjoy it though and I think it's always a good sign when you dream about your job.

The first week at work appears to have gone well. I'm enjoying having a responsable job title (Theatrical Sales and Materials Assistant) and being in charge of important things like film classification and moving film prints across the country. There is a lot of number crunching involved but I'm excited about being able to meet film types/go to film festivals/get invitations for film parties, etc. It's a first position in a great company and I'm sure I'll be able to stay there for a while and be happy.

I went out last night with a bunch of Exeter types from back home who now live in London (Nat, Owen and Tom) It was so nice seeing them, we went to a night called 'Crimes Against Pop' in Islington. We did dances in a circle and I went mental at one point and was raving... good times.

I'm watching a new Metrodome release called 'Away From Her' which is directed by Sarah Polley and I think it's rubbish and has no potential at all. If anything, I think Metrodome will make a loss on it as it's a hard film to sell apart from the fact it stars Julie Cristie. Bleurgh...

The job continues to suck and I had to go through 20 large digibeta tape boxes today to find one tape which I didn't loose in the first place. Really nervous about tomorrow but I can only be myself and hopefully that's something they'll appreciate. I miss my mum and dad a lot and I can't wait to go home next week. In other news: I'm in love and I still can't say anything after 6 months of being with the said person I'm talking about. Maybe it's a good thing?

Good news as well! I have a new dress. Excellent.

So, this past week has been really interesting. As ever, I started out last Monday hating my job and this continued til further into the week and on Tuesday I got an e-mail from Metrodome Film Distribution and they asked whether I wanted to come in for an interview (I did work experience with them) and it's for a DVD/Cinema Sales & Material Assistant. I was amazed they'd contacted me and I let this take my mind of my already crap job this week. On Friday the boss called me in for a 'catch up' and she informed me that I didn't work very hard and I used the internet too much and she was really unimpressed. She said that she would let me finish off my probation period but they wouldn't keep me on and I said that I really didn't care as I had no life plans for working in television, perticularly not being a librarian. We agreed that I should work there for the next two weeks and probably agree that I should leave. I also let her know I had an interview on Thursday. Working with 20 year old's who came straight out of school and now have full time jobs there on 20k a year doesn't really add up, I don't NEED this job and I'm a graduate with an excellent degree, I'd even get more money from temping.

Yesterday was great, we went to Barden's (Darren and I) with Mar and Mira and it was fun. Took my mind off the job situation quite a lot.

It's almost 2007 and time for reflection.

2006 was an interesting affair, I went from a student to a 2.1 graduate, unemployed to employed and single to attached. These have all been encouraging things but also rather sad as I can't get away with watching morning television for hours and hours and hanging around in my pyjamas (the not being student part...) In 2007 I visited Italy and Canada and lost friends and even made new ones. I've lost a few pounds and put some pounds back on and now I need to lose the pounds again. I've moved from Devon to Surrey to London and I'm now a permanant resident of London and it's many ins and outs! I've become an adult in 2006 and only hope to continue to be even more grown up, I pay big bills and everything now.

Christmas was OK. It gets less exciting every year, but it was nice giving mum and pops their stockings and making them happy. I ate a lot of truffle chocolates and I think I can do the truffle shuffle now. The highlight of Christmas was driving to Somerset to see Jake and his parents and playing in an orchestra with plastic whistles?!

I just shoved everything I could find in my fridge (except the cream cheese and some pesto) and some stuff in my cupboard into a huge cooking pan and included some chopped tomatoes and thyme and bay leaves and it actually tastes quite pleasant. This includes courgettes, potatoes, onions, mushrooms, and peppers. There are some beans in there too.

Last night was fun at Catch, except we had to wait 45 MINUTES for our bus home. Elly and I bought some babybells and crisps and ate them on the way home. It was like a processed dream. Today I tried to find a coat everywhere in Clapham Junction and I decided I'm just going to get a nice marc jacobs one from ebay for like £90 because at least I know it'll fit and I can pay for it on my credit card. aaaaah ha ha.

Jake is in NYC and I miss him too much and it makes me sad.

Last night was really crap. I forgot my ID and they wouldn't let me in to afterschool so Jake took me to another club that played a lot of commercial NME music and I danced really sarcastically and he yelled at me and called me pretentious. I think I should have just gone out with Mar.

Today I went to see 'Art School Confidential' after waiting for 2 years for it to be released. It was showing at the Ritzy only today. While we were outside a junkie threatened us with a knife for a £5 note Tom had in his pocket. So he took the £5 and ignored Tom's phone. Good times.

I really enjoyed the film, it only confirmed that art really is subjective and my whole three years of study was actually quite pointless. haha. Daniel Clowes is the greatest. I just ate too many falafels and my tummy and gurgling.

Oh, the new job is OK. However, I'm not sure how many episodes of Lizzie MacGuire/That's so Raven/Higglytown Heroes I can stand.

saturday night at mar's was amazing, we had so much fun and I was so drunk I was sick 8 times (an all time record)
I made a sailor friend and we kept going off to bum (as we figured this is what sailors do) we also did various sailor dances. it was really impressive. mar you really have SO many cleaning products in your house, I'm impressed.

started the new job today and I think it's going to be amazing. between 6-8 no one apart from the security guards and programmers are in the building and I have to stripe tape stock while I watch scrubs (which is broadcast from the building I work in). does anyone remember DIGit? The dodgy 90s show Ferne Cotton used to be in? Went into the studio today, they don't use it anymore!

what is it with London doctors? I only wanted to sign up as a patient and they have now insisted I have various STD tests! scary. I never said anything but they told me that Lambeth council in London has the highest rate of STD's in the whole of London. I only wanted some cough medicine and I've left feeling paranoid!

I'm really, really, really depressed now. I've had a few interviews in the last two weeks and I obviously didn't get one of them because they haven't called me. One of them I was late for and the boss of the company was like David Brent. One of them I haven't heard back from yet but they estimated sometime this week, I think I'm underqualified and don't look the part. Today I had another one and everything went well and then I said something that the interviewer thought was quite random and she saw me out with a frown face. Maybe I'm just not cut out for the media.

IT'S LUNCHTIME: ... and it's time for a post of epic proportions.

Working at Pathe is a-ok. I like waking up at 7.30am when it's slightly breezy outside and there aren't so many people awake in the close where I live. The children are on their way to school with packed lunches and they look delightfully uncherpy. It certainly gets me out of the house and makes my days a lot more fuller. The week is almost over quicker than I knew it would be.

Next Wednesday I am moving to Clapham and am busy packing up all my little bits up to secure my permanant position in this big smoggy city. There is no way I can go back to Devon now as I neeeeed a good job.

Revolver turned me down for the Marketing Internship. I found out it was unpaid (aka. fuck that!) and I asked why I wasn't considered. They deemed me "too experienced" and said "we wanted to give someone else a chance". You can't win can you? Anyway, I applied for a handful of receptionist jobs this week and am waiting for answers.

Elliot has gone to live with my ma and pa in deepest devon. Ma said he's happier there and he sleeps in the airing cupboard in one of my sweaters. I plan to visit in the next 2 weeks when he ventures outside into the fresh air to find even more adventures.

I want to go and see a good band play soon. Anyone know of anyone good playing? Is Yo La Tengo sold out? Hmm. Homos.

I really, really, really miss university. By this point last year I would be packing all my stuff up and returning to Farnham with plenty of things to do and a lot of work to keep my mind occupied. Right now I am without a job and am watching morning television. I know I'm starting work at Pathe tomorrow but again it's unpaid so I'm not entirely sure how long I can stick it out for. It's very depressing. I will go though... because if I don't I might miss out on some internal promotion that only work experience people know about. Why have the last three years of study become so useless? I'm more determined than ever to get a job at be happy and secure. I really miss my pretty house in Farnham and when things used to be easy.
